It was last week that a rally was held across from the old Dillman Eye Care at 600 North Logan to protest the planned move in of a women’s health clinic that would offer abortions.
At Tuesday night’s (April 4th) Danville City Council meeting, a speaker stated that this clinic would offer more than one procedure. Karen Schildt worked 41 years in women’s health care in Danville; as a women’s health nurse practitioner and certified nurse midwife, at the old Lakeview Hospital and for Carle Health. She says what must be remembered first and foremost is that the Danville area is lacking in women’s health care overall.
AUDIO: I was here to talk about health care for women; which is already compromised by our lack of obstetricians and gynecologists, our lack of OB departments; and now this push to reduce access to women’s health care. So it’s about way more than one procedure.

There have been rumblings of a possible ordinance to try and keep the clinic from coming to 600 N. Logan. Schildt says she has heard it would be called a “sanctuary law.” And if it is, she says let’s think of some different sanctuary needs as well.
AUDIO: But if we’re talking about sanctuary cities, I would like to see many other issues addressed rather than the unborn. (Such as) people we already have here who are marginalized because of housing, finance, color, sexual identity.
Schildt was applauded by some others in attendance after she finished her comments to the Danville City Council.
