The FDA’s recent proposal to change restrictions on gay men and blood donations grabbed headlines and kudos. After all, it would mark the removal of blanket restrictions for men who have sex with men since those enacted 40 years ago.
The Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and FCB Health New York together created the “Blood Equality” ad campaign seven years ago to push for the removal of restrictions for gay and bisexual men donations, and while they agree it’s a positive step, they also agree it “still falls short,” said Mike Devlin, executive creative director at FCB Health New York.
