MINNESOTA VIKINGS wide receiver Justin Jefferson is everywhere these days: Gracing the cover of Madden 22, hitting the griddy on TikTok fan accounts, and, of course, balling out on NFL Sundays in a way that only gets more impressive each week. (Jefferson recently broke Randy Moss’ record for the most receiving yards through a player’s first three seasons.) One of the small—but most important—life lessons the 23-year-old wideout is learning in his third NFL season is to start taking better care of his skin. “Going from sweating all the time to TV made me want to start doing research on how to get a better routine,” he tells Men’s Health. “I quickly realized that I’ve got to start taking care of my face.”
Over a video call from his home, Jefferson explains why he’s decided to partner with Bubble, one of the buzziest skincare brands of 2022. The partnership is unique, no doubt, especially when considering the fact that football players rarely align themselves with grooming brands. But all things considered, Jefferson understands how to play the long game—and knows the decisions he makes now will pay off years down the road.
“I’m all about hydration now, especially a good hydrating sleep mask. It helps me save time and still gives me that clean, smooth feeling,” he says. “I also like doing masks with my girl. We’ll listen to music, dance, and play with my dogs while the mask does its thing. After I scrub it off I apply my moisturizer, of course.”
Jefferson says he loved the idea of joining an up-and-coming brand like Bubble because of its ease of access and affordability—Bubble has now expanded nationwide into Walmart and Ulta Beauty. “My routine before was using soap and water and cleaning at the surface level. As I started trying more of Bubble’s products, I learned why it was so important to go beyond what I was doing. The fact they’re affordable and available really allows guys to learn the same way I did.”
Bubble also donates a portion of their proceeds to non-profit organizations that support young people struggling with mental health issues, a cause Jefferson has spoken about in the past. “It always helps having someone to talk to, whether it’s a close friend, a family member, or therapist. Say what’s on your mind. Don’t hold it in. Getting help is something you should never feel ashamed of,” he says.
Such words make it easy to forget that Jefferson is only 23 years old, but he’s taken his rapid rise to stardom and turned it into a crash course on how to grow into the person he wants to be. “I feel like my mind has matured faster, especially on the football side. But I still shock myself with some of the things I’m doing,” he says. “Growing up having two older brothers, there are situations I got to see them go through and I feel like there are things I learned from watching them that have helped me grow so fast.”
As far as what he’s learned in his third NFL season, Jefferson maintains it all leads back to strengthening his support system. “I’m learning the people around me are as important as ever. Knowing who is really there for me versus who is just around me.” He says, “I’m also learning how to better my community and find ways to better somebody else’s life, apart from my own.”
Jefferson’s humble approach and willingness to be a role model for the younger generation is finding him success in all aspects of life right now. In terms of who he can share his new skincare knowledge with, Jefferson admits he’s going to start putting his teammates on, including Vikings quarterback, Kirk Cousins. “I think Kirk is a sleep mask type of guy. He’s going to be getting some from me.”
