Doctors, nurses and executives joined construction workers as they signed the final steel beam before it was hoisted in place in a “topping off” ceremony for the under construction Women’s Health Pavilion at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center in Laguna Hill on Thursday, Dec. 22.
The $80 million, 40,000-square-foot building will house breast care programs and a range of women’s health services under one roof. The new building replaces an older one next door and will let MemorialCare nearly double the number of patients it sees each year.
Part of the pavilion will be the new Sarah and Taylor Nederlander Breast Center, a result of a $2.5 million gift from the Harry J. Nederlander Foundation. Taylor Nederlander said the way her stepfather, Dr. Gary Levine, the medical director of the breast center, “loves and cares for his patients” made her and her sister, “want to help in any way they could.”
